W liczbie pojedyńczej zawsze używamy wyrażenia there is:

   There’s a big tree in the garden.

   There’s nothing on TV tonight.

W liczbie mnogej używamy wyrażenia there are:

   There are some big trees in the garden.

   There are a lot of accidents on this road.

Aby użyć formy przeczącej musimy dodać not po czasowniku „być”:

   We can’t go skiing. There isn’t any snow.

   This restaurant is very quiet. There aren’t many people here.

Pytania: 

   ‘Excuse me, is there a hotel near here?’   ‘Yes, there is. / No, there isn’t’

   ‘Are there restaurants near here?’   ‘Yes, there are. / No, there aren’t’
